Bio-Serv has been supplying the Research Community with custom animal diets for nearly 40 years. We welcome the opportunity to take part in your next project. We have successfully formulated more than 5,000 custom diets for our customers. We are certain that our level of experience in the development and production of research animal diets cannot be matched.

Our production facility is ISO 9001:2008 registered to ensure your confidence in our products and processes.

Custom Diet Information:

Nutritional Analysis: All nutritional assays are performed by an independent laboratory. When an assay is requested, the cost of the testing will be incorporated into the quote. Commonly tested nutrients include; Macronutrients (Protein, Fat, Fiber, Ash and Carbohydrate), Mineral /Vitamins, Fatty Acid Profile, Cholesterol, etc. A certificate showing the actual lab results will be sent to the investigator.

Sterile Diets: Custom diets can be sterilized by Gamma-Irradiation. The cost for this service is $100.00 Flat Fee for orders up to 100 kg. Orders over 100 kg the fee is $1.00 per kg. Lead-time is typically 4 weeks. If a diet is required sooner the cost is $900.00

Packaging: Custom Diets can be packed according to your needs. Please specify when special packaging is required.

Lead-Time: Lead-time for Custom Diets is 10 business days for existing formulas, and 15 business days for new formulations.

Pricing: Custom Diets are made to your specific requirements. They are quoted on a per order basis depending on the diet composition and form.

Diet Descriptions:

Custom:Diets formulated according to the research requirements of the customer. Bio-Serv can reproduce a previously published formulation, modify our existing
formulas or create new formulas based on customer specifications.

Standard:Routinely manufactured diets that have been published in the literature to meet the research needs of experimental protocols.

Custom Supplied Additives: Diets formulated to include test compounds supplied by the customer such as medications, nutraceuticals, food ingredients and test articles to allow for convenient dosing of compounds.

Purified: Diets that are formulated with refined ingredients such that each ingredient contributes primarily one nutrient allowing for precise manipulation and customization of the diet’s nutrient composition.

Grain-Based: Diets formulated with agricultural products such as whole grains, high gluten meals and livestock feed ingredients. Ingredients in grain-based diets have complex nutrient compositions.

Medicated: Diets formulated to include medications supplied by customer or purchased by Bio-Serv.

Diet Forms Available:

Dough: Soft, cookie dough consistency

Gel: Firm but moist diet that is both a food and water source

Liquid: Diet that is suspendable in ethanol or water

Pellet: Cold pressed pellets, protects nutrients from air, light and moisture

Powder: Used for incorporating compounds at research site

Precision Pellets: Precise weight round pellets in sizes 14 mg-1 gm

Precision Tablet: Precise weight flat tablets in sizes 3 gm-10 gm
